SlopeGard™1 fiber rolls are made from curled wood (aspen) excelsior formed into tubes inserted inside photodegradable, extruded, black plastic netting. Excelsior may be rolled from blanket form, blown in or augured to form rolls. Custom diameters and lengths are available. They are available in quantities from one unit to bundles totaling 300 feet. None of the materials contain any chemical additives.
SlopeGard™1 should in installed in accordance with standard details for fiber rolls (straw tubes/wattles).
SlopeGard™1 is used on slopes in place of cloth silt fence or straw tubes (wattles) to reduce runoff velocity and control or capture eroded sediment. SlopeGard™1 is lighter and easier to handle and install than straw bales or cloth fences. It is particularly useful in wildfire restoration due to its superior longevity.
SlopeGard™1 is contained in a tubular black netting with a strand thickness of about 0.03 per inch, a knot thickness of about 0.055 per inch and a weight of about 0.35 ounces per foot made from 85% high-density polyethylene, 14% ethyl vinyl acetate with 1% carbon black for UV inhibition.
