Up-Flo Filter / Product Specifications
The Up-Flo Filter, manufactured by Hydro International is the new standard in stormwater treatment. Designed to meet the most stringent stormwater regulations by targeting a wide range of pollutants including floatable trash, gross debris, fine sediments, nutrients, metals, oils and grease, organics and bacteria, the Up-Flo™ Filter is a high rate, modular system that combines a patented upward flow path with a unique Drain Down design.
The product’s design produces the highest per module filtration rate in the industry today. Filter media can be customized to meet the site specific pollutant removal criteria. The Up-Flo™ Filter’s unique modular design simplifies installation and maintenance, and allows for easy retrofits into existing stormwater structures.
The multiple treatment train capabilities of the Up-Flo™ Filter – settling, screening, and filtration – make it the most effective and economical stormwater treatment system available.
Operation and Maintenance
SCOPE:
Federal, State and Local Clean Water Act regulations and those of insurance carriers require that stormwater filtration systems be maintained on a recurring basis. The intent of the regulations is to ensure that the systems, on a continuing basis, efficiently remove pollutants from stormwater runoff thereby preventing pollution of the nation’s water resources. These specifications apply to Up-Flo™ Filter units as manufactured by Hydro International.
RECOMMENDED FREQUENCY OF SERVICE:
Drainage Protection Systems (DPS) and Hydro International, the manufacturer of the Up-Flo™ Filter recommend that the devices be serviced every six months (two times annually) on a recurring basis. Regulations and/or codes of some regulatory agencies and municipalities may require more frequent service.
RECOMMENDED TIMING OF SERVICE:
DPS guidelines for the timing of service are as follows:
1. For areas with a definite rainy season: Prior to and after the rainy season.
2. For areas subject to year-round rainfall: On a recurring basis (at least two times per year).
3. For areas with winter snow and summer rain: Prior to and just after the snow season.
4. For installed devices not subject to the elements (washracks, parking garages, etc.): On a recurring basis (no less than two times per year).
SERVICE PROCEDURES:
1. The inlet manhole cover(s) shall be removed and placed to one side.
2. Any floatable materials will be removed and disposed of in accordance with local regulations.
. The standing water shall be checked for clarity, oils and hydrocarbons, and the depth of the collected silt and sediment will be measured.
4. The Media Pack will be replaced once per year.
5. If sediment level exceeds manufacturer’s recommended level for effective operation, an industrial vacuum shall be used to carefully remove all sediment and debris.
Note: DPS uses a truck-mounted vacuum for servicing these units. Pump-out by the industrial vacuum is not included as part of the normal service of the interceptor and will be quoted on a case-by-case basis when the silt level warrants. Said quote will include the removal and disposal of standing water in accordance with local regulations.
1. The manhole cover(s) shall be replaced.
REPLACEMENT AND DISPOSAL OF FILTER MEDIA AND COLLECTED DEBRIS:
The filter media will be exchanged once per year. Depending upon the type of filter media utilized, additional fees may be incurred for testing and disposal of this waste material.
Note: As the generator, the landowner is ultimately responsible for the proper disposal of the exposed filter media and debris. Because the filter media likely contain petroleum hydrocarbons, heavy metals and other harmful pollutants, the materials may be treated as an EPA class 2 Hazardous Waste and properly disposed of. DPS relieves the landowner of the actual disposal task, and provides certification of its completion in accordance with appropriate regulations.
DPS also has the capability of servicing all manner of catch basin inserts and catch basins without inserts, underground oil/water separators and other such devices. All DPS personnel are highly qualified technicians and are confined space trained and certified. Call us at (888) 950-8826 for further information and assistance.
